It is a sad fact of 21st century life that people and property are at risk. Thieves are looking for the next quick buck and don’t care about the consequences of their actions. And there are those people who put others at risk…either unintentionally or deliberately.

This is where security guards step forward. Their role is to anticipate risks and prevent potentially dangerous situations from escalating. They are the eyes and ears of the client, watching and monitoring events and properties, and they are the feet on the ground, present in person to ensure communities and possessions stay safe.

The term security guard covers a variety of roles. There are event security guards who are responsible for ensuring concerts, festivals, exhibitions or conferences run smoothly and safely. They will visit venues before the event to identify any potential risks and put plans in place to counteract that danger. Then, on the day, they will monitor guests as they enter to ensure the safety of all and will react immediately should any incidents arise. The safety of the attendees and the success of the event lie in their hands.

Patrolling security guards provide both a deterrent and protection for premises. Offices, warehouses and public buildings all house thousands of pounds of valuable equipment which can be targeted by thieves. However, a patrolling guard will be constantly vigilant, checking the premises and ensuring it gets stays secure.

Security guards also sometimes use dogs which have enhanced senses while also providing an excellent visual and audible deterrent. They are especially useful in higher risk situations and are trained to the highest standards.

Their work is supported by security guards which monitor CCTV cameras and alarm systems, watching for any suspicious activity and recording information which might be vital in any police prosecution.

Close protection security guards, often referred to as body guards, work to keep high profile people safe. VIPs, celebrities and controversial characters can all draw unwanted attention ranging from over-enthusiastic fans to serious threats of assault and kidnap. However, the security guard will work closely alongside the client and will step in as needed to ensure they are protected whatever the risk.

Security guards will also be present in towns and cities across the country as door supervision, manning the doors of nightclubs and bars to ensure inappropriate behaviour is stopped and everyone can enjoy their night out safely.

Counter terrorism security teams protect the public from the actions of extremist groups seeking to damage property and harm lives. The world is a volatile place triggering diverse groups intent of violence to draw attention to their cause. However, security teams will use intelligence to counteract these threats and stamp them out before anyone is hurt.

Security is the response to the threats of the modern world, allowing people to live safely and peacefully.
